Submarine Heirophant

from Reptile Dysfunction by Tony Castellano

/

about

The premise of this song was to use chords that all contained the same note (the drone heard at the beginning which continues all the way through). The slow building arrangement was inspired by both the Genesis 'Abacab' album outtake "Submarine" and the Steve Hackett track "Shadow of the Heirophant" from his 1975 solo debut 'Voyage of the Acolyte' (hence the title, which was originally just the working title). This is the only song without real drums; the entire thing was recorded on 8 tracks using the drum machine built into my cheap Yamaha keyboard which required only a single track.
